"Update" after each shut down

Each time I turn off my PC, it indicates there is an update to be installed
and the PC will shut down automatically when the update is completed. This
happens each time the PC is shut down, no matter how briefly it had been on.
The update is "installed" and the PC does shut down automatically. All else
appears to operate normally. I receive automatic updates. I don't believe
there is a new update each time I turn my PC on and off. (I am running
Windows XP Professional with SP2.)

Is his a common problem? How can it be remedied?

Thanks for any help!

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Scroll all the way to the *bottom* of the log.
Copy and paste the last 50 or so lines into your reply, please.

Translation (in this one particular case): Servers overwhelmed, try again
later. However...

....shows that KB892130 has already been installed.

Does the following apply to you?...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

Sorry for my delay. I've been away for a bit. It appears the update that
will not install is XP Service Pack 3. The download appears to complete and
installation goes on for some time then stops and I get a message "Access
Denied" and have to undo the incomplete installation.
