I have a 2003 IIS server that is trying to install the following
updates

Windows Server 2003 Hotfix KB908981 was installed.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following
update: Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB908981)

Windows Server 2003 Hotfix KB837001 was installed.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following
update: Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB837001)

Windows Server 2003 Hotfix KB891781 was installed.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following
update: Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB891781)

Then the windows agent schedules these updates to be installed in a day
or two. How can I stop this from happening?

If this server is running on-line applications (which might be locking some
components that require update), try shutting down IIS and those
applications, and then running Windows Update manually.

Re 908981 - what version of Front Page Server are you running on this
server? Was it the special version that shipped with Server 2003, or are
you running a downlevel version? You might try the Server 2003 version if
not already in use.

thanks,
I tried stopping www service and rerunning the updates, but they still
want to install again. there is no FrontPage installed on this server.
What else might be causing this?

That usually means that the update is not completely installed.
Sometimes, installing it manually is better than trying to let AU or WU do it.
In either case running it with the /verbose switch could clarify what modules
went where.

Which version of the OS is involved? The Security Bulletin shows
that there are two versions of the modules possible if the OS is "Itanium based".
In any case you could check the versions of the modules which are installed
with the versions of the modules given in the Security Bulletins' File Information
section to try to understand exactly what part of the update is not installing fully.
Apparently there is something called the Enterprise Scan Tool which you
might try instead. I think that the number of modules involved is relatively
small so if it is only one machine with a problem checking them manually
might actually be less work.

Good luck
