Update for AMD Processor gives error 0x80070103. Why?

The update (details below) insists on failing even after I've emptied the
'DataStore' folder in the 'SoftwareDistribution' folder.
What is going on and, more to the point, how can I ensure a successful update?

Driver Fails to Install Error 0x80070103 (V4)

Problem Description:
The customer downloads the driver and it fails to install due to error
0x80070103


Resolutions:
These problems are specific to the driver in question. Please report this
problem to Microsoft Product Support. There is no charge for this support
call or web incident.

Please collect the Windows Update.log and SetupAPI.log from the Windows
directory (or Winnt on Windows 2000) from the affected machine and be ready
to provide these to Microsoft Product Support

Hi there,

Only take Drivers for MS hardware from windows update.
If an update is needed because the hardware is not working well ( if it
ain's broke do not try to "FIX" it) go to www.amd.com for an updated driver.
