tried to get this update as well as Winhttp 5.1 Both failed. I couldn't find
regsvr32licdll.dll to check. I think the fact that this is missing caused the
failure to install. Can I manually install regsvr32licdll.dll?
Thanks..

hi Lynda
i read about your computer problem and came up with this
solution

----------------------------------------------

When you try to install SP1 on Windows XP, you
receive 'Service Pack 1 Setup Error'?

When you try to install SP1 on Windows XP, you receive:

Service Pack 1 Setup Error
Service Pack 1 Setup canceled.

After Setup quits, you receive a message similar to:

Service Pack started with following command line:
***
InstallFromFunction call in inf section "BuildType.DirId"
failed.
***
Failed Deleting C:\WINDOWS\system32\jvminst.tmp 2
***
Service Pack 1 Setup canceled.
***

NOTE: To view the SP1 installation log, open %systemroot%
\svcpack.log in Notepad.

This problem will occur if the Licdll.dll or Regwizc.dll
libraries are NOT registered.

NOTE: Some 3rd party apps, like XP-AntiSpy, can cause
these libraries to be unregistered.

To fix the problem:

1. Open a CMD prompt.

2. Type regsvr32.exe licdll.dll and press OK. You should
receive DllRegisterServer in licdll.dll succeeded. Press
OK.

3. Type regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll and press OK. You should
receive DllRegisterServer in regwizc.dll succeeded. Press
OK.

4. Install SP1.

I am using windows XP Home Edition. I was just trying to get the recommended
update, which was the BITS2.0 and the WinHttp 5.1 so I would be ready to do
Service Pack2. The reason for the failure to install that was given was that
it couldn't find regsvr32l1cdll.dll. Apparently, it doesn't exist on my
computer. I tried going to start>run and then typed it in manually, but it
didn't seem to work.
I have been in a panic because I have the backdoor.domwis virus on my
computer that I can't get rid of, and I need to get the service pack 2 for
safety.
I have a problem with my registry and have tried reg cleaners and manually
removing this virus. Nothing is working. Also have been running Norton,
AdAware and Spybot. I don't know how the virus got through all that.but it
did..
Thanks for any help you can give.

Where did you see such a command?

I suspect you overlooked that there was a *space* between the
command (regsvr32) and its operand (licdll.dll)

Try Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter

regsvr32 licdll.dll

(If that is what you were instructed to do somewhere.)
