The update that was done on the 8th of July was downloaded and installed on
two PCs. Both PCs lost internet access. Both PCs had to be restored back to
July 4 to fix the problem. Now it is trying to install the update again
because update manager downloaded the files again. I want to know if a fix
has been made for the updates and if not, is there a way to remove the two
updates from the PC so that it won't try to keep installing them?

I tried running the update service within the ZA software and it did not
find an update.

However, according to AT&T support, I needed to lower my security settings,
and that advice was on an automatic network alert voice recording on their
phone support line. It said nothing at all about ZA.

Rather than lower security to install a security patch, a rather ridiculous
situation, I chose to uninstall the patch. Now my browser works fine.
(Win2000 Pro/Firefox 3).

I will go find the ZA patch at the link you provided (thanks), but my
question is, if I reinstall the "security" update that already shut down my
browser once, will it still require me to lower security settings? I would
rather do wtihout the update than do that.

There is no patch, program update, or program upgrade on the ZA link
provided, only what I already knew, two "workarounds", neither of which is
acceptable IMO.

The very same thing happend to me - all was well untill these updates were
installed (KB951748) Security Update for Windows XP and (KB890830) Windows
Malicious Software Removal Tool - both on July 8, 2008 - I spent over 4 hrs
with my Internet Provider trying to get me back online - I ended up doing a
system restore back to July 7, 2008 and still could not get online called my
Internet Provider again and within 10 min. I was back online - then I went to
Windows Update and checked my Update History and found out which updates were
installed on July 8 - and printed out the info and when updates tried to
install them I unchecked them so they will not get installed - don't know
which one of the updates caused my issue of being blocked from internet but
I'm not going through that again -

First change your Update settings so that updates will not be automatically
installed - this way when the update comes up you can choose "customized"
then you can uncheck which updates not to install - You can go into
add-remove programs found in control panel - put a check on show updates and
look for either the updates number or date it was installed - then click on
it to high light it like you do to remove any program and click on remove -
if I had have wrote down the updates numbers and went into add/remove
programs and removed them I would not have had to do a system restore back to
an earlier date - and my internet issue would have been fixed - "Hope this
helps you"

Thanks for the replies. I have turned off the automatic download/install for
the Windows update. Unfortunetly, the two updates for the 8th were already
re-downloaded onto my PC before I could get that done so now it wants to
re-install the updates whenever my PC turns on. I'd like to find a way to
remove them from the PC so that I don't have to re-install just to uninstall
them but I can't find where the updates would be stored awaiting installation.

UPDATE: When the icon popped up for me to install the updates again, I chose
'custom' install. Both of the July updates were checked so I unchecked them
and said 'close' (window). It popped up a message that had a box to mark
'Don't show these updates again' which I checked. The updates no longer show
as available to install.
