I'm running XP Pro and have recently installed SP2. When I try to run
Windows Update it returns the following error:
-------------------------------------------------
[Error number: 0x80072F8F]
Your computer's date and time appear to be out of sync with an update
certificate. To fix this:
1. In Control Panel, open Date and Time Properties.
2. Ensure that the date and time are correct.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
In fact, my date and time are correct, but the error persists. Any
suggestions?

I have this problem with W2003

make this:
Open Internet Explorer and go to "Tools/Internet Options..."
on the Advanced tab go to Security and uncheck "Check for server certificate
revocation (requires restart)

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately that hasn't fixed the problem
because this box is already unchecked in m y copy of IE.

Regretfully I've had this error for almost seven months (and through the
installation of SP2 which I thought would correct it - it did NOT) ...

I'm almost at the stage of reinstalling XP professional as no one can seem
to give any workable advice - excepting to make sure the date and time are
correct (they are and are synchronized to an atomic clock!) ...

Everything else seems to work fine, though.

Respectfully,
Richard

What are you trying to say?
Post back with more details such as:
Operating system.
What Service Pack is installed.
What you are trying to do.
Exactly what is happening.
Exact error message
Etc.
