I installed the updated for the above on 7/3/05 and now cannot get any sound.
I have tried uninstall by right clicking on the properties but this does not
help. Should I uninstall from remove programs in the control panel?
Help!!!!!

Hi bakerdmw,

If you haven't already done so, you could try the driver rollback option in
Device Manager (double-click on "Sound, video and game controllers",
right-click on the reference to the C-Media audio device then select
Properties>Driver tab and then click on the "Roll back Driver" button).

Another option would be to perform a System Restore to a date and time that
precedes the installation of that update.

I would try d/loading and installing the drivers from the motherboard
manufacturer's website or the computer manufacturer's website ( if an OEM
computer such as Dell, Compaq, HP, etc.) and install them.

D/load, install and run Everest Home Edition:
http://www.lavalys.com/products/over...?pid=1&lang=en

When you first open Everest after installing it, click in the Computer icon
in the right-hand pande, then click on the Summary icon in the right-hand
pane. You'll find a wealth of information about the hardware installed on
your computer.

As the date here indicates, I came late to this issue. My motherboard is a
Via MV43N by shuttle, a Chinese board that when I purchased it was
conveniently offered with an update to XP. Why? Because it has a command
written only for XP, which means it can only be run with XP. I bought XP
after discovering that issue, and notifying the OEM. (Has any OEM ever
admitted it had a fault? No in my experience.)

The update for the C media AC97 soundcard offered by MS will not install
properly and therefore, surprise surprise, will not install -- at all. I did
not try Patti's rollback the driver suggestion but I tried all the others.
Finally had to use my monthly backup to restore. (Has anyone had luck with XP
System Restore? It will restore the errors I just installed but I cannot get
back to previous restore points. OK, maybe once. But several other times, no
luck.)

I appreciated Shehan's comment to go to the OEM for driver updates. I can
use the MS diagnostics to indicate who has one available and then go to their
site. Much thanks.
