Update continues to run

Just reformated my hard drive completely, and re-installed XP- Home. Have
been trying to get all updates to XP and now (after about 12 updates & many
re-boots), the update manager just runs & runs and never gives me any info or
option on what updates are necessary.

I know it hasn't downloades SP2 yet.

Any help is appreciated.

Download and install SP2 manually - then try again.
If you have connected to the Internet on high-speed and you are not behind
the Windows firewall (or at least a NAT device) - you may be infested with
who knows what by now anyway - but it is worth the time to download SP2
manually, install it and try updates again...
