When trying to receive update system does not progress pass screen checking
for new versions since down loading new update software yesterday. Although
trouble shooter suggested third party software may be causing this problem,
although Zone alarm had a folder present with install details, could not find
control panel for this program. Have not loaded services pack 2 as this is
what I'm trying to access.

I'm not too clear about your post.
First off, what did you download, software or an update, and if it is
software what is it, and if it was an update, which one?
and what does Zone Alarm have to do with your question, what program are you
looking for in control panel..there are no programs stored in control panel.
What exactly is the message when you try the update site?
here is a link to troubleshooting access to the Update site.

And, as far as SP2, well, you need to be very prepared before you install
that patch.
read these links before you do anything.

Hi

You could try the steps in this post to try to get WU to work:

If nothing there worked, try the steps in this post:

Here are some more steps you can try if the above was of no help:

"Software update incomplete" error message when you visit the
Windows Update Web site

You cannot install some updates or programs

If you mean to use the CD to re-install the system from a "Recovery" image,
Please stop offering the advice. This is a drastic measure that will wipe
out the contents of the user's hard drive. All user files and installed
programs will be lost.
