Hi,

we have a proxy-server in our branch. The IE is configurated to use this
server:3128 for all outgoing protocols.

This works fine for surfing in the whole internet ... without microsoft
update and windows update. We have watched the update-communication on
the proxy (firewall).

First Windows update tries to communicate with various servers from
microsoft:80 - disregarding the defined proxy - and tries to connect
directly to those servers. After some unsuccessful attempts the IE seems
to remember, that there is a proxy-server defined and then the IE uses
the proxy really.

The same happens with some connections to microsoft:443. Together it
takes a very very long time to install updates.

Is it possibel to use a proxy and windows-update together?

Using a WSUS-Server is to expensive.
Using the internet without proxy is to dangerous.
Using windowsupdate with proxy is to slow.

and now ?

Additional we that this happens since we have installed XP-Service-pack2

Other clients (w2k or xp-sp1) work fine.

Any idea, how to become fast again ? (No, we don't to open the firewall)

regards Ingo
