I have a new computer that keeps erroring while trying to install windows
updates.
I have reinstalled the OS. Renamed the SoftwareDistributionFolder and many
other things.
I even installed the SP3 update for Windows XP and the updates still will
not install.

I am enclosing the last 50 lines of the WindowsUpdate.log file.
The system is a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 with 2 GB Ram, 200 GB
hard drive.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

I tried that tech doc and still received the same problem.
When I went to the last step about downloading the windows update program I
received a "corrupt file" notification after downloading it to the pc in
question.

Had you reinstalled WinXP just before you installed SP3?

Did you try Method 1 as well as Method 2?

Is a 3rd party firewall being used ?
What is the installed antivirus/security suite ?
Are there cookie/pop up blockers or download managers/accelerators
installed ?
What toolbars or Add-ons have been installed to IE ?
Is IE7 installed ?
Is the system on a network through a router ?

No 3rd party firewall
No antivirus/security suite installed yet.
No popup blockers, download managers, accelerators
No toolbars or addons.
IE7 is installed.
System is on an office network.

> System is on an office network.

Who manages the network and how many systems are on it ?
Do other systems show these errors in the WU.logs ?
Is there a server and, if so, what's on the server in terms of security?
Does the server update successfully ?
Is WSUS involved ?

Who is the Admin for the network ?

I am the network admin have about 6-7 servers.
This is the only system that shows the errors.
We have security in the form of a Sonicwall Firewall appliance.
We have over 30 pcs and all update fine.
This is the first one I have had an issue with.

I am checking the hardware to make sure there isn't any data degradation
occurring.
