Update error 643

I noticed I was not receiving any new updates after a successful
install of SP2 so I checked and found the .net update should be
loaded.

I did a download and told it to install.

I received a message that the update failed. Error 643

I searched this news group and came up with no messages with a
solution, but found other update errors.

I did the registration of several .dll files, with the stop and start
of wuauserv, and MS Knowledge base article 836937, except for the
repair of the cert.

All to no avail.

The update worked fine on the Laptop.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I had the same .net error, so I went to the microsoft site and downloaded the
..net framework version 1.1 redistributable. It errored saying that I had to
remove the beta version on my computer in order to continue. I used add /
remove programs to do remove the beta version (I could not tell that I had a
beta version) and as soon as the removal was completed, I reinstalled from
windows update. It appeared to hang, so I got frustrated clicked cancel. I
played 1 game of spider solitaire on easy, won, and went back to the update
screen and it said install successful. What? So I went back to Windows Update
and installed .Net Framework 1.1 SP1 and this was also successful. I am going
to go have a beer now, this was nuts. Don't know if this will help your
situation. Good luck.
