update error message and probs installing MP10

i have a number of problems

when i visit the windows update site this error message is displayed and i
cannot find out what it means. 0x8024D00C i hope someone can help as i am
unable to install service pack 2 until this issue is solved

when i attempt to install media player 10 i get a message saying that the
software you are trying to install has not passed windows logo testing
installation will not continue. even when i set it to ignore that or give me
the choice to let me choose what to do it still does not allow me to do that
and just stops the installation everytime. at the end it tells me to run the
setup program again. i have been having this problem since i removed MP10
from my system because some things werent functioning properly.

any help would be appreciated

thank you TaurArian [MVP] the first link solved both my problems.
cryptographic services was disabled. once i restarted it it solved both
problems. thanks so much. you're a lifesaver. i was contemplating doing a
complete system restore before coming here and backing everything up would
have been a pain. thanks for the help.
