Update Error number: 0x80072EE2 Since April 13th Security Updates

Since installing the 6 security updates of April 13th
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2005 (KB890830)
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
Security Update for Windows XP (KB890859)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack
2 (KB890923)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB893066)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB893086)

I have been unable to manually access the Windows Update site I receive the
error 0x80072EE2. I encounter this on 4 XP Pro machines running SP-2. All
access the internet via a 2000 server running Win Route Pro. This server also
had the 6 updates installed as did the other machines. The systems also
cannot access certain secure sites, I was not able to make this post from one
of them for example, some other web pages time out, MusicMatch Jukebox will
not access the online music database, Outlook and IE 6 will not access my
Hotmail accounts, and numerous other pages won't work. Oddly some secure
pages do work some do not. I have tried pretty much everything in Google
Groups, Deja, MS KB, Tech Net, and the groups here. I have also opened ports
80 and 443 in my firewall per one of these posts. I am concerned that this
worked prior to these updates and don't want ot be playing with my firewall
settings and such. They have always worked before this. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

As I stated previouslyI have tried all of the available fixes at MS
Knowledgebase (KB), Tech Net, Google, and Deja. Thanks for your reply though.

I was in the same situation. I unistalled Update KB893066 and things came
back to normal.

Jece I unistalled Update KB893066 from the server and attempted to update on
a system running an XP Pro fresh install not even SP1. I cannot connect to
update and get the same error and I cannot activate the XP software either. I
am going to reinstall the security update on my server since it didn't
correct my issue. I would add for anyone else who might want to take a whack
at this that the 2000 Server system acting as the gateway seems unaffected by
any of this. For example I am using it to access the sites the XP systems
won't. For example to make a post here.

The machine I experinced the problem with is an XP Home with SP2. Since
automatic update is turned on, today it reinstalled KB893066, blocking my
capability to login to hotmail, yahoo mail or run windows update. Unistalling
it again solved the problem.

I guess it is not the same for XP Pro or non-SP2 machines.
