Update.exe taking up 99% of CPU time

Hello,

I am using XP Pro 2002 service pack 2. Recently I find that my
computer is very slow. Checking Task Manager - Update.exe is running
at 99%. If I kill the task it is fine.

But it keeps coming back after a reboot. I have let it run over night
thinking it was doing an update - but in the morning it is still going.

Did virus/spyware scans - nothing appears.

Any help?

Thanks,

Tmuld.
