Update explorer hangs on install

Since SP2 installed I go to Update page, select an update, download it and
then the installer hangs without any errors. Have to manually stop installer.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I've tried many things with no
luck. I feel like I'm to the point where if I
keep "tweaking" things, I'm going to really mess things up.
I'm on XP SP2 (I ordered the CD because windows update was
broke), Norton Internet Security, I use AOL broadband over
Adelphia cable internet. I've unplugged my router and have
the cable internet directly connected now just to rule the
router out. I'm stating my configuration in case we find
that we have things in common.
This all started for me when V5 of windows update
appeared. This was before I went SP2 so it's V5 WU not SP2.
I've done many things recommended by this newsgroup with
no luck. I even disabled Norton while trying to download
with no luck. I did notice that there are many entrys for
windows update and automatic windows update in the Norton
program control listing. Maybe some of those need to be
removed. I may check with Norton today to see if I can
find anything. Let me know if we have similarities in our
configuration.
