update failed for service pack 2

i am trying to install service pack 2, and it only gets so far and the
installation fails and says access denied. then it has to go back and redo
everything and i have to restart my computer. i have windows xp

I UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOUR NORTON FIREWALL OR McAFFEE ANTI-VIRIS,ECT WAS ON
WHEN YOU DOWNLOADED THE SERVICE PACK 2 SOFTWARE,THEN YOU WILL HAVE MAJOR
PROBLEMS INCLUDING NOT BEING ABLE TO DOWNLOAD ANY OF THE CRITICAL UPDATES OR
EVEN OPENING THE AND INSTALLING THE SERVICE PACK 2. TRY UNINSTALLING THE
SERVICE PACK 2,THEN OPTIMIZE YOUR DISK,TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL...RE-INSTALL
THE SERVICE PACK 2 AND DO NOT FORGET TO TURN ON EVERYTHING YOU TURNED OFF
BEFOR GETTING ON THE INTERNET. I HAVE WINDOWS XP ALSO, IT WORKED FOR ME...
