Update fails with 0x80072EFD error.

I ran windows update to put on two critical updates and two optional updates
including IE7 and now when I attempt to access Windows Update, after it
"checks for updates" it displays a message with 0x80072EFD error and gives
some links to fixing the problem (putting http://*.update.microsoft.com into
trusted sites, etc.) but the problem persists.

You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error 0x80072EFD," "Error
0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when you try to use the Windows
Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site
