Each time I boot up my pc vista wants to install the update mentioned above
on my pc. However I continuously get the error code 800B0100. Other updates
are installed without any problems.

See if manually downloading and installing the update works.
Download it from here and SAVE it, do not run it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Click the Continue button next to " Validation Required " and the
Download link will appear after 'Validate dance' is done<w>
After the download completes close the browser and any other open programs
Reboot the system and then install the update.
Did that get it installed ?

If this is the only update the system can't install, then most likely
it's not related to the installed antivirus/security suite.
Is the installed AV monitoring Windows Mail ?
If yes, try disabling that protection and see if that gets it installed.
Other then that, I've run out of ideas on this one, Robert.
Vista is not installed here, but I do remember during Beta testing that
there should be something in the Event Viewer with a 'more detailed'
description of just why this specific update is failing.
There is a subheading on Windows or Automatic Updates, but can't recall
specifically where to look, sorry.

Thanks anyway,
I wonder if the source of the problem is not situated in windows mail. Since
several weeks windows mail is not functioning properly. Most of the times it
takes centuries to open a mail or to close the program. I have been surfing
the Internet to find a solution but till now I have found an answer.
Resetting windows with system recovery didn't have any effect.

I 've found the cause and the solution for my problem with windows mail:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72...mail-slow.html
Can it be that spybots is also causing the update failure?

Is Spybot S&D installed ? If the answer is yes and TeaTimer is enabled,
then yes, that *may* be why the update failed to install.
Checking the URL you posted doesn't appear to offer an explanation of
why updates would fail for Win Mail, just it's slowness.
As I posted previously, if just this one update failed and the others
installed successfully, the issue most likely is with WinMail, not the
security software.

I disabled the teatimer but still the update couldn't be installed. I guess
you're right and the problem is related to Windows Maill and not the AV
software.
