After a complete rebuild of the C drive (Xp Pro) (Office 2003) there is one
update that fails: -
Error Code: 0x80070643 on a HID non user input data filter. It is only an
optional update so I guess it's not critical.
But......
On the "Safely remove Hardware" icon in the notification tray.........I can
see my HDD! I have a single HDD partitioned into C (Software) D (Files) E
(Stuff for the net).
Does my PC think that the HDD is removable (It isn't) and thus cannot update
the HID?
Did I do something wrong in the rebuild (Like can I tell the system that the
HDD is removeable - when it isn't?)

So, a two problem question (Sorry team) which I think are related. I think
solving the latter will solve the former (And prevent my wife or son
unloading the HDD!)

Office 2003 Update fails to install with error 0x80070643
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...=en&IsMu=False
You receive error 0x80070643 when you are installing Office 2003 Updates.
Updates fail to install because ose service is disabled or cannot be
started. Applicable Office versions: Office 2003

You cannot install an Office 2003 service pack
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884298

Step 2: Re-create the path of the original installation source in the
registry
Especially for 80070643 if a registry cleaner is used

You receive an "Error 80070643" error message when you try to update Office
2003 by using Software Update Services
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903772

For the other question about the HD, perhaps a more appropriate NG -

New kid on the block:

Description of the update for Office 2003: December 9, 2008
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949074

<QP>
Issues that are resolved by this update

Update for Microsoft Office 2003 resolves the issues that are mentioned in
the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

• 903774 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903774/ ) If you disable the
Ose.exe file, Microsoft Office updates do not install when you use Microsoft
Windows Server Update Services or the Microsoft Update Web site to deploy
software updates and hotfixes to computers in the organization

• 903772 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903772/ ) You receive an "Error
80070643" error message when you try to update Office 2003 by using Software
Update Services

Note The update for Microsoft Office 2003 resolves the issue in Knowledge
Base article 903772 when the Office Source Engine service is disabled.
However, the update for Microsoft Office 2003 does not resolve the issue in
Knowledge Base article 903772 when the Office Source Engine service is
corrupted. [Clear as mud, wot?]
