Update failure-Windows Media Player 11

I’m running Windows XP Home Edition SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
Windows Media Player 9 is currently installed. When I try to install Windows
Media Player 11 from the Windows website I get a dialog box that says “Cannot
complete Windows Media Player 11 Setup”. The Web Help button tells me that
ERROR 8007F00D has been encountered.

I did a search for that error and found the suggestion that I rename
spupdsvc.exe. I did this but I still got the same result when I tried to
install both Windows Media Player versions 10 and 11.

The wmsetup.log file contains the following errors:

package WMP11Setup: 0x8007f00d
package WMP11AUsetup: 0x80070643

Any suggestions out there in newsgroup land? Any help vastly appreciated.

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#setup11
should cover the basics of debugging any WMP11 setup failure. Start there,
let me know what further date you need. =)
