Not everyone subscribes to the same newsgroup server and not all newsgroup
servers are synchronized at the same time and not all people check the
newsgroups consistently. Given all that - it is entirely plausible someone
might only get ONE response out of this entire thread and have no idea -
without proper quoting, etc - what is going on.
For example - there are many people using the web interface and/or
newsreaders who might only ever see the above.
Thus why I like including this:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...d9662000245580
So everyone can indeed see the entire thread. Although I have noticed that
sometimes even that is incomplete...
Having said all that - about your original problem...
"Error Code: 0x8007F0F4
Try to install the update again, or request help ...
FOR
Update for Windows XP (KB942840)"
Looking at the patch:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942840
.... do you need this one?
If so - and assuming when you say "Windows XP Pro" you mean "Windows XP
Professional Edition" and not "Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" -- what
happens when you download and attempt to install the patch manually? (
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en )
As for the rest of your post - yes, I read it. So I know you got it
installed at this point - or actually - you went to a lot of effort to
install something you did not need since you had IE7 and the article for the
patch specifies "Internet Explorer 6". ;-)
