update failure XP home sp2

Perhaps this will interest MOWGREEN, thanks to him/her I feel I may get an
answer.

I have 72 updates downloaded that will not install. without any error
messages.
I looked thro the messages in the group and found a possible solution posted
by MowGreenon 28/6/07.

It was go to cmd and type %systemroot%\system32\rundll32.exe etc, etc.
The instrunctions resulted in a dialogue box appearing containing "error in
setupapi.
Missing entry InstallHinfsection Default install".

Having got this info I would love to know what to do with it!

I also went to M/s update site and looked my update history.. it showed a
failure and an error code 0x80080008.
I will appreciate any help to solve my little problem. My PC seems to be in
perfect order otherwise

Let's find out what error messages the WindowsUpdate.log contains before
attempting any fixes, OK ?
Go to Start > Run > type in or copy&paste

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK or press Enter
Scroll down towards the bottom for the most recent entries. See if you
can locate the section of the log which shows the updates downloaded
successfully and the failed installation of said updates. If you can
recall which *date* this occurred, then use that as your guideline.
Copy & paste that section of the log into your reply, please.

Following my mail of 29/06/07.
Unfortunatly your "fix" did not work, but since then I had a response from
MS support centre who told me to do the following and it WORKED, I now have
all 79 updates downloaded and installed. Perhaps the info will help you in
the future:-

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

2. Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Worked for me. 92 updates installed! I had been looking for months. Please

I updated to windows sp2 on my home edition months ago, something went wrong
with my computer and had to reboot. Now I'm unable to download itunes for my
ipod -keep getting a message telling i need windows xp sp2 for itunes and
quicktime what do I do ..please please help me.
