Update font, window, and tab problems

After downloading and installing the latest XP update (as of 8/22/08), I've
noticed several problems regarding font and window sizes particularly in
Outlook and Excel. The fonts in windows like the Options Window are larger
than they used to be and the windows do not resize. Some of the text and tabs
are no longer visible. Any ideas how to reset this back to the original
settings? I've tried changing the settings in Control
Panel-Display-Appearance-Advanced, with no results.

I've searched the forums, but have not found any solutions to this problem.
If this problem has already been addressed please send a link.

Thanks,
Waffle

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1).

What updates did you install? Does uninstalling one or more of them correct
the problems?

I have WinXP and the downloads that were installed just before the problem
began were: KB951978, KB892130, KB936929, and Windows Update Agent
7.2.6001.784

These were downloaded as part of an automatic update. How do I uninstall
them? Or should I uninstall them?

After uninstalling all the recent updates, stuggling for a while, and then
reinstalling Internet Explorer everything seems back to normal. I'm so glad
I also have Mozilla on my computer as a back up internet browser, because
removing the updates seemed to kill my Internet Explorer.

WinXP is not a full Windows version. Since you'd installed (and
uninstalled) WinXP SP3, you must have been running and probably are still
running WinXP SP2.

Are you running IE7 and does your reference to "tab" in your subject (but
not anywhere in your posts) mean IE7 tabs?

Did you install any of those updates via Automatic Updates? The fact that
you installed KB892130 tells me that you did at least some of these updates
via Windows Update website.

You couldn't possibly have downloaded/installed KB936929 (WinXP SP3) and
KB951978 in one session at Windows Update.

The above notwithstanding, start your recovery now by getting WinXP SP3
(only) reinstalled.
