Recently I've started getting 0x800705AA - insufficient system resources -
rather often with Windows update. Some updates are installed without a
problem, but some keep giving this error. For example KB933729 and KB939653.
The error code is not very helpful, since I don't see how my system resources
could be insufficient. I tried downloading the updates from Windows
catalogue, but this does not help - similar error occurs when installing. Any
ideas?

Error code 0x800705aa, error code 0x8007007e, and error code 0x80004005
This error code occurs when the Dpcdll.dll file is missing or corrupted.

Thank you for your reply. I tried replacing the Dpcdll.dll file (version
5.1.2600.2180). Unfortunately there was no change. I can still install some
updates, but not those two crucial ones I mentioned earlier. So any help is
still appreciated.

Then back to:
0x800705AA - ERROR_NO_SYSTEM_RESOURCE
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service

See if you can install one of the manually downloaded updates in safe mode. If you can,
then you'll need to examine what is hogging the system resources.

Thanks again! At least I made some progress now. I tried to go to safe mode
(pressing F8, not through msconfig), but the computer just rebooted itself.
Oh well, I got back to normal mode and my display driver crashed (ATI 9500).
Then I tried to download an update for the driver through Windows update -
not successful (error code 0x80070057) - but the updates that originally
caused the problem were installed! Then I re-installed my display drivers
from a cd, so that works again. Unfortunately the IE security update
(KB939653) was somehow "forgotten", and Windows update wanted to install it
again (that yellow exclamation mark appeared). This caused the same error as
before. As a conclusion, one of the originally problematic updates was
installed and the other one wasn't.

Now I'm planning to re-install XP and see if it gets better. It's been
running for some years already...
