Update hangs on KB917283

Windows update hangs on:
KB917283: Beveiligingsupdate voor Microsoft .NET Framework versie 2.0
I restarted my PC several times.
How can I solve this.

Something else is happening to my computer.
It keeps on looping through installation (at least four times so far) & when
I go back to the windows update page, it still says I need this update.
Its as if its not installing correctly or its not send a message its
installed.
If anyone can help ... Please reply..

I have two pc's at home which I keep updated regularly. I also have had
KB917283 fail to install on one of these pc's but is successful on the other.
The two pc's have different hardware but are both kept up to date so are
effectively identical in terms of OS software (apart from hardware related
differences in drivers etc). The pc which fails to install KB917283 gives an
error code when I check the update history of 0x643. It tells me to try the
update again which I have done several times with the same result. I did
notice that after the first download of the KB it has not redownloaded to my
machine since Update detects the KB has already been downloaded so just
reinstalls from the original download. Any help is much appreciated.

Download the "dotnetfx_cleanup_tool", Run it, and use the spin box to remove Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0. Leave version 1 alone. After it uninstalls and reboots, go to Windows Update
and it will show that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 needs to be installed. After that, the
update for it (KB917283) will install correctly. Another pain in the ass from Microsoft. You
would think the error message would TELL you that 2.0 is not working right...

> Thanks for the tip Unk, the update KB917283 has been driving me nuts because it wouldn't install,the cleanup tool you suggested worked a treat! Although i had to manually install framework 2.0 because when i went to Microsoft updates it didn't advise me it was missing,after i installed it i went back to updates where KB917283 then loaded properly! Microsoft should advise of this in their info, would have saved alot of wasted time!
