Today, I went to the Microsoft Update download web page to download and
install some updates. I was successful in doing this, but when I went into
my "Update History Page" tonight, I didn't see them listed with the other
ones. What can cause this?

By the way, I have Windows XP Home Editon with SP2. Help with this would be
appreciated. Thank you.

Updates which are manually downloaded and installed do not show up in the AU
update history. Not important.

Hello Timothy,

As always, you should make sure that you have got a working system restore
point before you run any test, download or install a new game, application,
or *software update*, or you make changes to your computer.
- -- ----

Can you go to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updates
<http://www.update.microsoft.com>

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and installation
update will fail until you have these f!les.

Reboot

What do you see in "%Windir%\WindowsUpdate.log". Please post your
windowsupdate.log file here. (last 60 lines would be enough).

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be along sººn

Good luck

Hi Engel, not a problem. Happens quite frequently (Newsgroup not refreshing
quickly enough). Don't worry about it.

Hi Engel:

I read your message and appreciate the information you've provided. I have
a couple of comments/questions. First, when you say a "working system
restore point" what exactly do you mean? Also, I did as you suggested and
went into Windows Update and clicked on EXPRESS to get the High Priority
updates. It then said that there weren't any updates that I needed. So does
that sound like things are working as they should? I await your response.

So you're saying that the Update History page is only to show automatic
updates? Is that correct?

Hi Tim,

"working system restore point" = Be sure the System Restore program is
enabled.

There are several application that will interfere with with System Restore
in Normal or Protected Mode causing a restoration to fail

Run a test

Make a RP follow the intruvtions

Wait a few minutes

Now, call the SR program, and select an old RP . Follow the intructions.

You will see a windows with the result. If the program don;t complain, the
RP program is workink OK. Otherwise you can go back to the point you make
before
