Hello
RE: Windows XP Home Edition
Hope someone can help me.
I have checked my update history and found there are 6 updates that have
failed to be installed.
They are ALL from June 14
I have tried going to each update, and manually installing ... which I had
no problem locating them and installing ... so I thought.
When I restarted, I checked the Update History, and they still show "Failed"
and are still not installed.
List is as follows:

KB890859
KB885835
KB885250
KB890830 (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool)
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
KB890923 -- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Exp Win XP SP2

Has anyone else experienced problems with these updates? and,
can anyone else advise me on how to handle these ??

Thanks for any help ----

The specific Update History entry listed as 'failed' will continue to show as
failed even if a subsequent update attempt is infact successful. The
subsequent attempt will be listed as successful --thus there will be the
successful entry as well as any/all failed attempts for a given update.

What happens if you 'click' on the 'failed update' icon?

hello bpa .... thanks for replying.
In regards to your inquiring, the "red x" (with a yellow question mark by
it) appears in the "status" column, and it was by clicking on these icons
that I was directed to the different areas for each one, and downloaded and
installed the ones listed.
I've tried this procedure twice with each one.
Do you feel that since I did have the opportunity to download and install
each one, that they are truly installed, and the history list continuing to
show "failed" can just be overlooked?

---Thanks for your help ----

There are several ways to verify if they have indeed been installed, 2 of the
quickest would be to check 'Add or Remove Programs' via the Control Panel or
with Windows Explorer.

via Add/Remove:
Most updates are listed there under 'Windows XP - Software Updates' --note
that the 'Windows Installer 3.1' will be listed separately/alphabetically
with other programs. (be sure that the 'Show Updates' box is checked at the
top of the window.

via Windows Explorer:
Look in c:\Windows. The first things listed are the updates that have been
applied.

Another alternative is to download/install Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com)
and select 'Free Download' from the bar across the top of the screen. Run
this utility and it will tell you about all software and Windows Updates
installed on your PC.

Yet another alternative is to download/install Windows MBSA utility.

Hey bpa ......

B I N G O ! ! !
Fantastic idea and advice on using Belarc ....
I don't know why I didn't remember it ..
I usually run Belarc periodically to get a print out of pc's current status.
The updates WERE listed, and Belarc shows they have been installed.

Thank you very much for replying and staying with me through trials.

Much appreciation...

I was wondering if there is any way of removing failed downloaded updates
from the update history? Is there any kind of utility out there for this? Any
help would be appreciated.
