Update http://support.microsoft.com/?kbId=829358

Since several weeks tries my sbs 2003 server to install the patch
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbId=829358 for sql services - and it fails all
the time. The error messages in the log are:

errormsg: Produkt: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine - Update
"{297F37C1-0572-466B-95A1-0DFC5C0A7FEC}" konnte nicht installiert werden.
Fehlercode 1603. Weitere Informationen sind in der Protokolldatei
C:\WMSDEHotfix.log enthalten.

Does anybody know what I can do, that the pach can be installed?

Try to find some context for these errors in the install log.
(Is that what this message is saying and giving you a filename too? <eg>)

There may be more diagnostics than that from the install attempt too.
Use Search Companion to find all files which changed on that day
and then sort them by Date Modified. That will list them by timestamp
so you can see which ones changed while the update was running.
Drag likely looking files to a Notepad window to see if they are readable.

Try downloading the update from the Microsoft Download Center rather
thanusing Windows Update. Worked for me... microsoft.com/downloads & search
for keywords "Critical Update for SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine" - putting
in the KB# does not seem to work in the search.

Thank you DY - finally it looks like it worked - it helped me really

Due to the fact that I'm not a pro for comuters, I was unable to work me
through logs.
