Ever since I had Microsoft Windows update site check my computer and install
the critical updates for my WINDOWS 98 SE operating system, I cannot do
anything important on my computer.. It messed with my windows, AOL and virus
sites, also my Active X is no longer supported.. I was told by pc pitstop,
trend Micro, about the active X, and the loss of my adminstrative rights..
Along with windows update itself and AOL!! From all signs, sonmehow there was
a mix up by Microsoft and they added some security patch that now tells my
computer and others that i am running XP, I am not.. I only have Window 98!!
I have no passwords installed as admistrator and I never downloaded
anything that the Windows update didnt choose for my computer!! This is
MICROSOFTS FAULT, I am not the only one having problems, it was THEIR
critical update that caused this, and they want me to pay for their support!!
My computer was fine until this update was installed!

According to every site I go to to download any updates on virus Scans or
even Trend Micro, Pc Pitstop, WINDOWS UPDATES. I get either or both of these
error messages:
This one about administrators ( I dont have one as i am owner and running
win98SE, never assigned one)..
Administrators Only

To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged on as an
administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If your computer is
connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from
completing this procedure.

Note If you are running a Windows 2000 (except DataCenter), Windows XP, or
Windows Server 2003 operating system, you can run the local administrator
account on your computer without having to log off and then log on again.

To run as the local administrator in Windows XP or Windows Server 2003:

Click Start, and then click All Programs (or right-click Windows Update if
it is available).
Right-click Windows Update.
Click Run as on the menu that appears.
Do one of the following:
Enter the password for the administrator.
Enter the user name, domain name, and password of a different user account
that has administrative permissions on this computer.

To run as the local administrator in Windows 2000:

Click Start, right-click Windows Update, and then click Run As on the menu
that appears.
Do one of the following:
Enter the password for the administrator.
Enter the user name, domain name, and password of a different user account
that has administrative permissions on this computer.

If the option to run as the local administrator is not available:

Click Start, right-click Windows Update, and then click Properties.
Click the Shortcut tab, and then select the Run as different user check box.

(NOTE) I cant do any of the above as it is directions for Windows XP!

Other Error message:
Checking Configuration:

Windows XP SP2 users: if you encounter an error, look at the top of this
page for a yellow bar that reads "This site might require the following
ActiveX control: 'J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6' from 'Sun
Microsystems, Inc.'. Click here to install..." Click the yellow bar and
choose "Install ActiveX Control..." to allow installation to proceed.

We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Javaâ„¢ software
onto your machine. As a result, Java software was not installed properly.

You may not have the right system requirements to support Java software (see
the box below). Most other issues can be resolved. Please consult the Help or
FAQ sections for assistance.

If the Java software has not begun downloading automatically, you may want
to perform a manual download.
