Update just doesn't start downloading...

I go to the update site, and it says checking for updates but it won't pop up
the window for me to click yes on to start installation. It did it once, i
clicked yes and nothing happened... it hasn't done again.

I'm having the same problem. Also, Yahoo and Hotmail are saying I'm not using
an up to date version of IE, but when I updated, knowing I already had the
up-to-date version of IE, it said that I had the most up-to-date version and
should exit the set up. I went ahead anyways just to make sure. Quiet
irritating that I can't check my hotmail and that I have to revert my yahoo
back to the eye sore it had graduated from just to check it.

I am also having the same problem. I have been able to use it in the past.
Has anyone found a solution? Thanks.

When you visit http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ do you see a yellow
bar asking about installing ActiveX controls? Are you logged in with an
account that has full Admin permissions? What is the version number of
wuweb.dll on your system?

I have to write that the solution under can't access windows update site
9/2/2004 from M Johnston worked prefectly for me. Thank you M Johnston for
helping with a big frustration.

If that didn't work either, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed,
check that the WuWebControlClass is enabled in Internet Explorer:
