The little shield appears in my toolbar and suggests installing latest update
using express install. A couple of minutes later, a box informs me that the
installation of KB925902 failed. (No mention of relocated dll files or any
of the other issues reported with this update.)

A few minutes later the shield reappears, again anticipating installation.
(Running XPP SP2 up to date on updates as of last week.)

Any suggestions on how to get this bad boy to complete the install?

thnx

GM

I was having the same problem (XP SP2 (home)), and tried a lot of things from
this site.
Finially, it turned out that it was because I had never upgraded to IE 7. (I
was resisting)
I did the following, and it took care of it:
1) Download the IE 7 install.
2) turn off my Norton Internet Security and Antivirus
3) install IE 7 Install
4) reboot
5) re-run windows update and select all critical updates (there were 3)
6) turn off my Norton Internet Security and Antivirus
7) install updates (it works!!! yea!)
8) reboot

I suspect the Microsoft guys were assuming something from IE 7 was
installed, and since it wasn't it was messing up the security patch install.

I already have IE 7 but I'm still having the same problem -- installation
fails. I have never had to disable Norton Internet Security and Antivirus in
the past to install the updates from MS. Is there a chance that if I wait
long enough, MS will fix this? Just what is the danger in waiting to install
the update?

I'm in the same boat - have IE7 and unable to install the update. All XP
updates that I've selected in the past have installed without a problem.
