The WGA diagnostic tool has been updated to correct this problem seen by some
customers. Please download and execute it from:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

After running the tool, please return to Windows Update and try it again.

Butch,
Look at your update history in Windows Update and you will probably find
that KB892130 was automatically installed back in Feb. Mine was Feb. 15. I
believe that running the tool Carey sent eliminates whatever glitch was
causing WGA Validation Tool to not function properly. Lucky Lady

My update history shows KB 892130 was installed back in Oct 15, 2005. Why
am I getting another update notification for the same item?

After reading this thread (as I was having the same problem) I discovered I
too had the update done successfully:
=== Windows XP family Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
Thursday, September 08, 2005 Windows Update ====
So why is it asking me to update again?
As well, I DLed and ran the WGA diag tool 1.5.0514 as per instructns above...

It's a new version of the WGA Validation Tool.
If you have a Personal Firewall Software running in the background, please
try to disable that one and make sure, you've enabled the Windows Firewall.

If redirecting is disabled in your IE or by a "security software"
running in the background, here you go:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...4/WGADiag2.exe

Download and save the tool, quit your browser, execute the tool and
try to access Windows Update via IE again afterwards.
