update KB917422 interfers with Quickbooks single check printing

In Aug 2006 I began to have a problem in Quickbooks printing single checks
using the center feed slot on my HP1012 printer. The date and check amount
would print approximately 3" to the left of where it should be. The payee
name did not print. This problem did not exist when printing a full page of
checks or printing anything else. I contacted QB Tech and asked for help.
They suggested re-installing print drivers, try another printer, even
re-installing QB....but nothing worked. After pulling my hair out, I finally
started testing windows updates that were automatically installed around that
time. After deleting KB917422 my problem went away. Has anyone else had
this problem? Any other fix available?
