Stuck in infinite loop:

For the past several days, I get the little shield telling me I have an
update ready. I let it install which it appears to successfully. Several
hours later, the shield appears again. Repeat.

I've gone to windowsupdate and it keeps installing over and over as well,
claiming that it was a successful install.

Rebooting has no issues.

Here is the last piece of \windows\KB917537.LOG:

This worked here today, so give it a try :
**************
I had the issue on my WinXP Pro SP2 pc and I created a new blank text
document and renamed it asp.dll and saved it to %windir%\system32\inetsrv.
Within a few minutes Windows automatically recognized the file as corrupt
and extracted a new asp.dll file it appears from
%windir%\LastGood\system32\inetsrv.
I had done a previous search for this file on my hard drive that returned no
results which indicates the file
could have been compressed.

After the new file was extracted I let Windows Update install KB917537 again
and the problem was resolved.

Yippee!

I ran SFC to sync things and nothing happened. There was no ASP.DLL in
%windir%\system32\inetsrv. I did
echo >%windir%\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll
and *poof* a 320K asp.dll showed up.

I reran the install and everything worked.

Thanks!
