I have just downloaded the referenced update and after restarting (from the
start screen since it would not restart from the link provided) I get a
message saying my anti-virus software has deleted a RAP Generic intrusion. In
fact, the screen lights up with a Christmas tree with warnings about
intruders, drivers that won't load and files that can't be accessed. I
finally managed to roll back the download although I couldn't get to system
restore through the normal links. I went through all this before with XP and
I eventually had to scrap the whole system when Microsoft would no longer let
me reinstall the XP OS. That happened with the SP2 patch which would
automatically attempt to install itself at least once a day, blocked or not.
My advice to everyone is to live with what you've got. Unless you can afford
to buy a new OS every few months ignore any Microsoft updates, these things
are dangerous to your computer's health!

I have never had a virus and every product device or app I ever installed or
downloaded only worked until a set of updates comes along and then weeks of
work are required to fix it. Reloading the OS has never fixed anything only
patchs for defective updates or replacement of software after updates like I
just did with NORTON because even they could not fix it will work. 2/15/07
updates have had me doing nothing but help and foreums for weeks still USB
hubs are not working and they worked before.
