I have tried to install this update for a long time now. Any information
would be fine. Should there be any program that I have to turn off before i
proceed?

Thanks for help

8000FFFF - Generic Unexpected error. Could be due to corruption in the registry values -
"PendingXmldentifier"
"NextQueueEntryIndex"
"AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving"
under the registry key: HKLM\Components.

1. Click on Start and in the Search box type in regedit

2. A new program will be listed in the same window. Now right click the regedit program
and then select the option run as administrator.

3. Navigate to HKLM\COMPONENTS - look to see if these values exist under
the COMPONENTS key:

PendingXmldentifier
NextQueueEntryIndex
AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving

4. If they exist, then delete the three values.

NB: Before deleting the anything in the registry, make sure you back up the keys - click
the File option on the main toolbar, in the drop down menu select Export Select All in the
Export Registry File dialog box
Give the file a name, then click the Save button
If something goes wrong, then all you have to do is click on the File option on the main
registry editor toolbar and then select Import
Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to
reinstall your operating system. Use the information provided at your own risk.

5. Restart the computer.

Or try manually downloading: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=929777

Thanks for the quick answer. I looked in regedit and it didnt appear any of
these values.

Tried another thing that I found in another tread. In the Add/Remove section
the update KB929777 where listed thou and I removed it from there and
rebooted. After that the update process went successful so probably it
interfered somehow.

Thanks for the help!

I had the same problem, or at least the version that occurs when you've
RECENTLY ADDED MORE MEMORY to your computer. I spent four hours on this
problem trying (among other things) all the complicated solutions given on
this board and in the Microsoft help & support database. None of them
worked. I finally found the solution that works after I spoke with Dell
Support (who helped me because I bought my computer from them). The solution
is pretty simple; here it is:

1. Shut down Windows Vista and turn off your computer.
2. Unplug your computer (so you don't get electrocuted) and open it up.
3. Remove the additional memory you recently installed.
4. Plug the computer back in and turn it back on. You may get a message
that the amount of memory has changed, which of course it has.
5. Run Windows Update, which will tell you to install the update (KB929777).
6. Click on "install update." After a very brief delay you'll be told that
you don't need that update.
7. Repeat steps 1 & 2.
8. Reinstall the additional memory you took out in step 3.
9. The next time you run Windows Update everything will be fine; KB929777
not needed.

P.S. - The next time Windows Update says you need one or more updates, check
the list of needed updates. If KB929777 is one of them you still don't need
it, so hide it from Windows Update by unchecking the box next to it.
Thereafter, Windows Update shouldn't bother you with it again.
