I was installing this update however, Automatic Update keeps prompting me to
install this update, even though the update shows as successful.

Any idea how to stop being incorrectly notified by AU to install the updates?

I have installed 5 times (w/auto UD) according to the history after using web
updates. I went and uninstalled and will just block it from asking me to
reinstall again. Something has been slowing down this computer for the last
couple of days ... maybe this was the cause. I will know later as I have not
discovered anything from this site to help with the problem.

Jon ... please see if the below, posted by Ottmar Freudenberger,
resolves the reoffering issue:

If that isn't clear, then do this ... Create a Downloads folder on C:\
After downloading the update manually to C:\Downloads, go to Start >
Run> type in

"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe" /o

Click OK or press Enter [ you can copy&paste the above command into Run
to avoid any context errors ]

Assuming you're on Windows XP SP2:

Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-a9f1eae19b51

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you.
Note the blank between the last quote sign and the parameter /o!

Bye,
Freudi

Do you know how annoying posting the very same workaround over and
over again may be?

Sure, I could stop to answer any question trying to help other users
with _their_ problems. And for sure, I find it much more arrogrant to
ignore answers already given and waiting for an individual soulution
without even considering looking around _before_ posting.

You've mentioned that _where_?

> HENCE my MESSAGE, thanks ANYWAY!!!!

In case you want a solution, wait some hours which it may take to
climb down the tree and provide the error messages or whatever you'
ve seen while trying the suggestion.

Freudi
