Update KB935839 fails to install

Every time I go to Windows update I download and install KB935839 and the
install fails. All other updates are up-to-date. How to make this security
patch install?

Here is the last error from the log file. The log file is quite long because
of the multiple failures - Oh, and thanks for the suggestion and quick reply!

Both logs show these:

2.922: The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the
opened file is no longer valid.
CreateFileMapping error 0x3ee mapping

That indicates file invalid or, file corrupted. CreateFileMapping error
0x3ee mapping only yields one hit on a google search of the web and none
for Groups. So, at least the issue is unique to this system.

Download the update from here and save it, do NOT run it:

When the download completes close all open programs and browsers.
Create a folder on the root drive, C:\, and name it Update.
Move WindowsXP-KB935839-x86-ENU.exe to that folder
Now click Start > Run > click the Browse button
Click My Computer in the left frame and open the C:\ drive in the right
frame
Open the Update folder and click on WindowsXP-KB935839-x86-ENU.exe
Click Open, then OK
The update should install now and may notify you that a reboot is
needed. Do a reboot anyway.

Did that get it installed ?
