Update KB943460 failed, error 0x8007F004

Other updates installed but KB943460 gave me error 0x8007F004. So I
downloaded the ENU.exe but it still claimed I didn't have the authority. Next
I tried it in safe mode as Administrator (I have XP Home) but still no go.
Why won't it believe that I'm an administrator? Should I blame Norton
Internet Security or maybe Spybot (though I tried turning the resident part
off, no difference)?

Or both of them? Yes. Disable both of them *completely* including their
associated services (Start -> Run -> service.msc [ENTER]/OK) and enable
the Windows Firewall at least in the meantime.

Problem solved: I deleted and redownloaded the update, turned off my Internet
connection, shut down just about all programs and services I could and
clicked on Turn off computer and install updates. Still don't know what
caused all this but at least my updates are all installed.
