AIYEE! The update nuked favorites and Outlook e-mail info, etc. (and who
knows what else). Is this possible? Could something else have happened?
(It's on a different computer than the one I'm on now...) This is NOT cool!

thanks

C:\Documents and Settings\

Do you just see ONE instance of your username there?

Not sure you can - usually that happens when something has gone bad with the
original profile and/or you join a new domain/workgroup.
You can probably go in and copy your favorites/my docs out pretty easily.
If not - you might need to 'take ownership'.

I am interested to find out if this actually is related to the May patches
or not - this is two reported cases in this thread alone.

You could try pointing the registry back to the original directory - but
it's not now because (likely) something was corrupt in that old profile
directory/registry... So it probably would not work and you don't want to
just copy 'everything' from there to a new profile.

Interestingly, when the computer was turned on this morning, all was back to
normal. v-e-r-y odd indeed!

Do you use MS Money? If so, try downloading a file from a bank and see if you
can access it. I had to uninstall both major patches to get it to work again.

Nope - we don't use that. Sound like MS might need a patch for the patch, huh?

Looks like it. The thing broke several utilities, including IE7, which is
pretty good going, even for Microsoft. I've uninstalled everything I
installed this afternoon and everything is back the way it was. Unsecure, but
working.
