I have just did a clean install of Windows XP Media Center. I used windows
update (custom) to install the updates and most of them were installed with
SP3. When I try to install "Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1" it says that
it failed and was not installed. There is no error code. I appreciate your
help on how to install it. I am trying to install it so that I can install
KB900325 Update rollup for Windows XP Media Center. Thanks.

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

Do you find any version of .NET Framework 1.1 already installed?

PA Bear, thanks for your help. I have v1.0.3705 on my computer. Beacuse I
have v1.0 on my computer shouldn't I be able to install v1.1 and also v2.0?

A. Did you install WinXP SP3 via Windows Update or manually? Have you
rebooted since you installed SP3?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were ANY of these applications running in the background when you
installed SP3 (and/or SP2)?

B. The above notwithstanding:

CrystalBall© sez...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

C. If the problem persists after reregistering the DLL(s) in 943144:

1. Write down what .NET Framework versions are already installed before you
go uninstalling/removing any of them!

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

2. Now see Resolutions Methods 1 or 2 in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 (ignore the title).

If no joy, see this related post by my colleague MowGreen:

A. I installed Win XP3 via windows update using custom rather than express
after a clean install of XP. I have booted many times since installing. Since
doing the clean install I have not installed an anti-virus, security suite,
Defender, or any other related security software.

B. I ran 943144

C.
1. The only .NET framework on the computer is v1.0.3705

2. I did not try installing any other .NET framework or any other updates yet.

Why did you do a "clean install"?

Excuse me? Your currently running without an anti-virus application? Not a
good idea IMHO. Please tell me that the Windows Firewall is enabled, at
least.

Is Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1 still failing to install? If so, is
it a Service Pack for version 1.1 (e.g., Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1
SP1)?

If the problem persists, try Resolutions Method 1 and/or Method 2 in

The hard drive failed and when I replaced it I decided to make it a Media
Center computer.

After reading your post I was able to install .NET Framework v1.1 and then I
was able to install the Update Rollup 2 update. Hopefully tomorrow I will be
able to set up the computer to my tv. Thanks for your help.
