Rob,
The issue lies with NIS denying the use of your computer. It did not
occur prior to the install of NIS, correct ?
Contact Symantec and demand to know a workaround. Otherwise, demand that
you get a full refund for incompatible software.
Specifically, are you referring to Windows Messenger that is included
with the OS ? If so you can remove that from the system for now by going
to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, clicking the
Add/Remove Windows Components link in the left frame, scroll down to
Windows Messenger, uncheck the box next to it, then click the Next
button and follow the prompts.
At the very least, the system should be able to run now.
