Hi everyone....I have the dell microsoft remote keyboard for Windows xp media
center edition v1.0. I am trying to get the keyboard to work and it says
in the intruction book.....before the keyboard will work, go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ...click custom install (I found a link
that says custom but not custom install but I'm sure that is the right
one...it says in the book, after I click on custom install to search for
"update Rollup 1 -or later- for eHome infared Receiver for Windows
XP..........................but it is not there. There is 2 options under
software, which neither is the right one and one in hardware, also not the
right one. What do I do....where do I get this? I really want to be able to
use this keyboard, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

NB: You should use another mouse/keyboard until you get these updates
installed!!

First of all, is the machine currently fully-patched at Windows Update
otherwise? (I'd recommend that you do NOT install IE7 via Windows Update!)

I ask because you'll need to have several other updates installed (e.g.,
900325; .NET Framework 1.1; .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 & related patches) before
you'll be able to successfully install "Update Rollup 2 for eHome Infrared
Receiver for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005."

If the machine is fully patched otherwise, you can download the update from
the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-4CAB82F31DC8

Save it to your desktop, then double-click on the saved file
(WindowsXP-KB912024-v2-x86-ENU.exe) to install. Follow all prompts.

Thank You PA Bear...unfortunately, I have no idea if my computer is fully
patched or what that even means. And as far as you don't recomment to install
IE 7.....I think it already is 7...that's what my son said. It's an xps great
big expensive computer that I have never really learned to use. My son uses
it mostly, but he keeps screwing it up and then rebooting it....with this
c.d. that came with the computer to restore it to orignail settings. I think
he does this because he is looking at things he doesnt want me to find out
about so he wants them gone. I don't know.....does this hurt the computer,
he's done it about 6 or 7 times. If I just go to that site you listed and
download the rollup 2 and I don't have other stuff on my computer, will it
ruin it? Thank you so much for your help!

Without hands-on access to the machine, I'm afraid I can't answer any of
your new questions.

The machine is "fully patched" if you go to Windows Update
(http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and no critical updates are offered.
If you find that no critical updates are offered download the update from
the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-4CAB82F31DC8

Save it to your desktop, then double-click on the saved file
(WindowsXP-KB912024-v2-x86-ENU.exe) to install. Follow all prompts.

Hmm..., then why are you responsible for getting the new wireless keyboard
(and mouse?) installed?

Please see the discussion "Keep your kids safe online" here:
