Update for net framework fails

When trying to install microsoft.net framwork 3.5 Service pack 1 and net
framework 3.5 family update (kb951847) x86 throught the normal update
procedure, I continually get a failure and an error code of 3701

I have vista home premium completely updated through windows update

Error 3701 - ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING
The referenced assembly could not be found.

SUggest you try installing the updates manually. Download them from the
following links and **save** them:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for Windows Vista x86, and
Windows Server 2008 x86
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...6-a31b83931953

**Click** the Download button next to * Windows6.0-KB958483-x86.msu *


*PRIOR* to attempting to install them suggest you Clean Boot Vista to
rule out interfence with 3rd party software.

Do 'Step 1: Perform a clean boot' as shown on this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

*After* the system is in the Clean Boot state, *right click*
dotnetfx35setup.exe [Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1] and
choose 'Run as administrator'.
Follow the prompts to allow it to run.
Restart the system whether you are prompted to or not.

IF it installs properly, then install Windows6.0-KB958483-x86.msu
afterwards. Reboot if prompted to.

At the very least, you'll have ruled out 3rd party software as being the
culprit for the failed installations.

1. Before doing anything else, write down the .NET Framework versions which
are already installed:

whether service packs have been applied

2. Now see Resolution Method 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100
(ignore the title). After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install
all .NET Framework versions manually using the download links on the page.
