Update .NET Framework, without program installed?

I'm puzzled. Windows Update wants me to download and install Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. I don't think that program is even on my PC!
It's not in the Add/Remove Programs list or C:\ProgramFiles. Could it be
there and not show by that name? Since buying this WinXP PC 3 years ago, I'm
the only one maintaining it, just as a home user, not a developer, or even a
gamer. (Moderately knowledgeable: very comfortable with Windows Explorer but
don't touch Registry at all.)

Do I really need this download? Why would this happen? I'm trying to Keep
It Simple.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated,
K

Hi,

Please paste the following line into Start/Run:

%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\

If a folder opens up with many files in it, you have .Net
Framework 1.1 installed.

Well, part 1 of my puzzle solved! Sure enough, there are 151 files +5
folders in C:\Windows\ -- so I'll go ahead and install the update. It's a
big harddrive, so I'd rather keep something I may not need than create a
problem trying to be too tidy.

Thanks, Torgeir!
