This update will not go away?

Windows update reports that "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework,
Version 2.0 (KB917283)" Was successfully downloaded and installed. Then, the
yellow shield appears to advise that the same update is ready to be
installed. I allow it to be installed. Again no errors aere reported and the
yellow shield dissapears. It invariably returns minutes later to advise
thats the update is ready to be installed.

Windows Update continues to report, will download and (successfully) install
the update every time I run Windows Update.

I have had no problems with .NET applications or with the system in general
so I am at a loss what to do (if anything!) I tried hidding the update, that
makes it all go away but I am constantly warned that I have hidden a crucial
security update.

I need some way to delete the files, edit the registry or whatever to get
rid of the beast. Would it help to Un-install .NET framework v2.0 and then
re-install?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mucfuddle,

See if anything here helps to resolve the issue :

Thank's for the feed back. As it happens, my own intuition proved
sufficient.

I tried and failed un-intsall .NET v2.0. The unintsall reported some non
discript error and rolled back the uninstall. I downloaded the latest v2.0
redistributable and attempted a repair. This appeared successful, but the
persitant update stayed around.

I tried again to uninstall .NET v2.0 and seemed to be successful, the
persitant update popped up again but (unsurprisingly) failed to install and
promptly dissapeared, windows update reported I needed no updates. I
reinstalled .NET v2.0 and the persitant update re-appeared. I allowed the
update to install, it completed successfully and (thankfully) is nolonger
causing a problem.

Yikes. I'm glad that .NET v2.0 isn't installed here
Nice detective work, Mucfuddle. Here's hoping others with the same issue
see your post.
