I have had the little gold update shield in my system tray for over 2 weeks,
saying new updates are ready to install. I have clicked on it at least 15
times to install it, it goes thru the motions, says it installed, then about
1 minute later, the shield is back with the same update.
Any ideas what the problem may be?
Thanks.

Re: Update will not install
Yes..it is KB936181
This is what I get When I try to install:
Size: 5.4 MB
A security issue has been identified in Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML)
that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain
control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update
from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your
computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.
More information for this update can be found at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=88350
Then I get this:
Initializing installation... done!
Installing Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack
2 (KB936181) (update 1 of 1)...
Then....I get "Installation Complete". I close that box, the gold update
shield in my system tray disapears for about 10 seconds, then it's back again
saying updates are ready for my computer...again and again...

Have a look at:
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2
(KB936181) may repeatedly appear in the update list on Microsoft
Update or on Windows Update:

Also have you checked the Known Issues -

Bingo !
Bingo ! This seems to have worked. However, when I downloaded the update and
went to install it, I got a box that asked if I wanted to modify, repair, or
remove the update. I chose "repair". The first time I rebooted, the shield
was still there, but my Spybot resident shild kept popping up notifying me of
registry changes. So I removed Spybot and rebooted again, and the gold shield
is now gone.
Thanks a bunch TaurArian !

question, and he /is/ talking about KB951213. So I just got the wrong user. :-)

Hello,
I have been following this issue because I have had no luck at all. I have
tried all suggested by microsoft, more or less... and now what? That dumb
update icon is still there and this important update has not installed yet (I
can't find it in the istalled update list). I have reposted my question, but
since I saw you are still trying to help I am sending you the question.... or
I think I am. thanks thanks
