Update notices for programs that I've removed from my computer?

I keep getting security update notices for programs that I've uninstalled.
Does this mean that the program is not completely uninstalled, is uninstalled
with security hole remaining or just that Microsoft update doesn't recognize
that the program is gone?

There's no way to tell without more details. Give us an example of an update
that is being offered for a program that is uninstalled - the update name and KB
number as well as the program in question.
