As the subject states, I receive a notification in the system tray
advising updates are available, click to download. When I click, the
icon vanishes but no updates download. After less than a minute, the
notification will reappear. Then the loop is completed and continues.

I have tried the totally automatic setting.

I read the Castelcops page and performed the batch file WUFix.zip
download, rebooted, and logged on. No joy.

Any additional suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Windows version?

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

Sorry. Cerebral Out-gassing Event (Brain Fart).

Windows XPSP2 on Core2Duo 5450 HP notebook. 3GB memory. Fresh install
after dumping Vista Home Premium. Very little software installed (yet)
besides the OS and Symantec AV Client Security 3.1.6 (AV portion only -
no firewall besides SP2). Behind NAT/Router Linksys WRT54GS with DD-WRT
v23 SP2.

Thanks for the tips. Will post back any interesting findings and questions.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
